Pre-test

Love Pretest? Hate flipping pages? This app is for you. Highly recommend.

Just what I wanted it to be

As a 3rd year med student on the run it is really nice to have an app I can use during every little down time... Good questions and long explanations of correct answers. Great.

Excellent product

I purchased a few of the previous releases and was annoyed that they could only be used on the iPhone. Wonderful to have them work on iPhone and iPad now. The only thing that could improve it is to have completed questions transferred between iPad and iPhone so that questions arent repeated.

Not fully accurate

Some of the answers given were not in all actuality what you would do next. My girlfriend took some of these tests on my phone (a nephrologist working as an internist) and told me that for some of the questions, the answers given were incorrect in what you would first go ahead with... Didnt care about rating the app, but I though Id give a heads up.

Good Explanations!

Statistics arent as good as USMLEworld, but this app is much cheaper! Id recommend for surgical shelf studying.

Annoying 1 star for interface, 4 for content

Im a big believer in doing as many questions as possible. And have used modality versions of pre test in past to do this. The interface on these is terrible as is the case for most in app purchases and I should have known better. Modality did/does a much better job, simple, streamlined, easy. Now there are just too many annoying steps to get started. This in-app is no frills, no bells and no whistles and at $29.99 per specialty really embarrassing. Cant believe they made something that was so good and easy to use so very very bad. Gwhiz this is awful. Sorry I wasted my money. Glad I have the modality apps still Questions are great and problems people have with next best step is merely exam world vs. real world. Do enough questions and you realize that they just want you to know an order of things. We all know "to large bore IV needles etc etc etc" but we also know in real world it doesnt always work that way.

Pretest itself is a pretty useful study aide for the shelf exams, in my opinion. I think family med pretest is written better and more pertinent than the NMS book. The app is pretty good as well. It keeps nice statistics and has an easy to use interface. $30 is the book price, and I choose the app over that because the quizzes can randomize the questions from various topics, simulating the actual exam, rather than doing one topic at a time.

Good

High price but worthed

The made a good thing terrible

The former pretest app was pretty decent with being able to make custom quizzes between 1 and 50 questions. This was great if you only had 10 free minutes between patients. This new app gets rid of that feature in favor of only a few options (5, 25, 50, 100 questions). There are no options to now do previously answered questions either. Basically the customizability of the app is significantly worse than the previous version. In addition, the help instructions are very mediocre and dont actually tell you how to do things in the app (I.e. change the mode so you can see the answer immediately after finishing the question). Overall I give this a 1 out of 10. Would not buy.

Great app

V. Good for Step 2 and Step 3. Thank you!

Convenient but needs polishing

Certainly convenient to be able to access on your mobile device quickly on the wards or between cases, but some additional features would earn this app 5 stars. Specifically, the number of questions per set should be customizable, not limited to 5, 25, 50 and 100 questions. Also, questions that have been previously answered, whether in quiz or browse mode, should be accessible following first use or have the option to be omitted in subsequent quizzes. Finally, previous quizzes should be able to be reviewed at any point following their completion. Make this app more similar to the UWorld app and more users will follow.

Old interface was much better!

Questions and convenience are great, but the old app was much much more user friendly

Save your money

This app is absolutely terrible. The old interface was much better. Pretest should be ashamed for releasing this new interface. I wish I could get my money back and just buy the book.

Excellent

I used this app on all my rotations third year and absolutely killed the shelfs.

Awesome!

Easy to use and great tool! Highly recommend for shelf!

Prior PreTests purchased deleted with this new release

So after buying more than $100 worth of iphone pretests (em, im, ob, psych, neuro), this version removed ALL of them from my phone after doing a simple update. Now, all I have is just a demo version with 2qs per subject. I can not redownload them from the istore or redownload them itunes. Buyer beware - expensive waste of an investment in their products.

Beware of wrong answers!

For the $30 I paid for the surgery set, you would think the answers would be coded correctly. Usually I was able to figure them out but there are at least a handful of wrong answers in there.

Great app

This is a great portable QBank for while you are on the wards. I like how it shows you the answers and lets you mark questions. This is one of the better platforms for portable QBanks for medical students. I stopped buying the paperbacks (which are wayyyy more cost effective- as low as $5), and just purchasing the app. The hard copy Pre-Test book is just too bulky to carry around in my white coat or scrubs. The price of the app hurts... but performing poorly on the shelf exam hurts worse for me. I found if I have easy access to the questions, then they are more likely to get done. :) I can almost always sneak in at least 10-20 questions a day, even on a surgery schedule. :) Also, remember that for the price you can have pre-test on you iPad AND iPhone! My only complaints are: (1) Please make purchases from Pre-Test app transferable to Prepzilla which are both by GWhiz (I think). If I am going to pay $30-$40 for an app, then I would like to please be able to not have to purchase the same thing two times for the same price. My suggestions are to: (1) Be able to select only questions you missed to be re-quizzed on (without needing to be flagged) (2) Create more games Thank you so much! I do highly recommend this App for practical on the go studying. :)

Different questions than the book?

I bought this app and question set thinking that the questions would be identical to those in the pretest books. However, at least for the surgery questions, none of the questions that Ive looked up can be found in the actual Pretest book. Im not sure where the questions in this app are coming from. I had heard that the Pretest Surgery question book was worthwhile to do, and I was hoping to do them easily with this app, but it doesnt seem to be true.

Mediocre

If youre a fan of PreTest, this app makes studying totally convenient and eliminates the flipping back and forth between question and answer. Unfortunately, the apps framework is super outdated and clunky. There are also tons of questions with incorrect or improperly matched answers. Also, some stems refer to an image which is not supported in the app. In all, its nice to have the questions ready but this app begs to be corrected. Its also much too expensive particularly with the inadequacies present. I also dont understand why if youve already purchased the book you cant have app access.
